To run automation in your local Edge browser with Octoparse AI, you’ll need to install the Octoparse AI Edge extension and make sure it stays enabled. This guide walks you through both automatic and manual installation methods.
Before You Start
There are two ways to install the extension:
Automatic installation (recommended): Quick and easy, done directly within Octoparse AI Client.
Manual installation: Use this method if the automatic one doesn’t work on your browser.
Whichever method you choose, don’t forget to turn on Developer Mode and enable the Octoparse AI extension in Edge.
Option 1: Automatic Installation (Recommended)
The fastest way to install the extension is through the Octoparse AI client itself.
Step 1: Close Microsoft Edge
Before installing, make sure to completely exit the Edge browser.
Step 2: Open the Extension Manager in Octoparse AI
1. Click your avatar in the top-right corner. Go to Tools > Extensions.
2. Find Microsoft Edge Automation, and click Install.
Step 3: Enable the Extension in Edge
Open Microsoft Edge.
Go to
edge://extensions
in the address bar.Make sure both Developer mode and Octoparse AI Extension are switched on.
Option 2: Manual Installation
If the automatic method doesn’t work for you, you can install the extension manually.
Step 1: Download the Extension File
Click here to download the OctopusRPA.crx
file to your computer.
Step 2: Open the Extensions Page in Edge
Step 3: Drag and Drop to Install
Drag the downloaded .crx
file into the extensions page.
💡 If nothing happens, try restarting the browser and repeating the step.
Step 4: Confirm the Installation
A popup will appear. Click Add extension to confirm.
Step 5: Skip Sync Options
If prompted to sync extensions across devices, simply close the popup.
Having Trouble Installing?
If Edge blocks the extension or shows a warning such as:
"‘OctopusRPA’ has been flagged as malicious and installation has been blocked" or
"This extension contains malware",
don’t worry — this is a false alarm.
What’s going on?
Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may mistakenly flag the OctopusRPA extension as harmful.
How to fix it:
You can temporarily turn off SmartScreen to complete the installation:
Open Edge and go to
edge://settings/profiles
Click Privacy, Search, and Services
Scroll down to Security
Turn off Microsoft Defender SmartScreen
Try installing the extension again
Once the extension is installed and working, you can turn SmartScreen back on if you like.
✅ You're All Set!
Once installed and enabled, your Edge browser is ready to run automation tasks from Octoparse AI.
